About East Gibson School Corporation
EGSC serves the eastern most areas of Gibson County, in Southern Indiana. We serve approximately 700 students from Pre-K through 12th grade. The townships in our district include Center, Columbia, and Barton.
EGSC operates 4 separate schools: Wood Memorial Primary School, Wood Memorial Intermediate School, Wood Memorial Middle School, and Wood Memorial High School. We have an 87% graduation rate, which is nearly on-par with the Indiana average of 88%. Our math proficiency average is 35%, which is higher than the state average of 33%.
We boast a low teacher to student ratio overall of about 14:1. We are in the top 1% in the state of Indiana for student attention and student teacher ratio. East Gibson School Corporation School District is ranked in the top 50% of all 391 school districts in Indiana (based off of combined math and reading proficiency testing data) for the 2020-2021 school year.
Our main campus, which includes Primary, Middle, and High schools, was built and founded in 1967 on South Franklin Street in Oakland City, IN. Our Intermediate School is located at the former Barton Township School campus in Mackey, Indiana. We can trace our former teachers, administration and students back through 1893 with original and well preserved historic rosters and grade books.
All of the Wood Memorial Schools embody a close knit community filled with a rich rural culture. We have ample sports programs and rigorous academics for all students to participate in.
Our students can participate in many different extra curricular activities, including Band, Choir, Archery, and FCA. We also partner with SICTC and the 4T Academy to provide high school students opportunities to have hands-on, industry specific education.
Starting in the 2023-2024 school year, East Gibson hosts Life Skills for grades K-5 in our Wood Memorial Primary Campus, and we offer special education PreK services as well.
(Name: Named Oakland City on account of the beautiful oak grove which covered a portion of the site on which the town was built. (H). )
We are the Trojans, and we don't hide our Trojan Pride. Our schools' colors are green, gold, and white, and our mascot is a Trojan Soldier. The Trojans are proud to participate in Blue Chip Sports and Academic conferences all around Southern Indiana. For all things sports, check out our athletic page at www.wmtrojans.com.
