Check here for School updates related to the Covid-19 Pandemic
July 21, 2022
At the start of the 2022-2023 school year, East Gibson School System will continue with the same Covid plan that was approved and in place at the end of the previous school year.
On February 17, 2022, the ISDH announced that schools would no longer be required to contact trace close contacts of positive students. They indicated that the value and feasibility of contact tracing have waned. They cited asymptomatic and mild cases, unknown infection, shorter incubation periods, and pandemic fatigue as reasons to eliminate this process.
East Gibson Schools will follow most of the recently updated guidelines by the IDOH. According to the Indiana and Gibson County Department of Health Schools should use the following Covid 19 protocols:
● Schools are no longer required to contact trace or report cases to the IDOH.
● Schools are no longer required to quarantine students who are exposed to a positive Covid 19 case, regardless of vaccination status or whether the school requires masks as long as those exposed are asymptomatic.
● Schools will continue to notify parents of exposure if we have that information.
● Individuals who test positive for Covid-19 should notify the health office and will be required to isolate for five days and may return on Day 6 if they have been fever-free for 24 hours without the use of medication so long as symptoms are improving. Individuals will continue to mask through Day 10.
● We will continue assisting local health departments with notification in the event of an outbreak or cluster. Information from the IDOH is available in the link below.
